Totara Tree

Nov. 19 – a.m.

We look a local bus to a local museum/garden area for a tour hosted by a Maori guide, Prince. He's a fascinating fellow to listen to and told us his personal history as well as the history of the Maori tribe in the area and the coming of colonists. He showed us the totara tree which grows tall and straight without any problems with branches. This type of tree was cut down and then hollowed out to create large war canoes.
