Volcanos are everywhere
Nov. 20 – a.m.
On the way out of town, we stopped at the highest point in the area which is a dormant volcano. This entire nation is part of the Pacific “Ring of Fire” and they have over 2000 earthquakes a year. They are almost all small tremors, around level 2 on the Richter scale. This dormant volcano we stood on is one of 50 in this area. Thank goodness they are dormant and didn't come to life while we were there! In the Maori tradition, this mountain was the home of one of their gods. They would collect their best food, offer it to the god and burn it in the caldera.
